This model is based on a Thames Punt from the early 20th century and is the type that was used for private purposes rather than those that were for hire. Each end, called the "till", is realistically engraved to resemble planks and the sloping panel before each till is called the "swim". There is no obvious specific purpose for this charming object except that it might have been made as a present for someone who enjoyed punting, possibly an undergraduate at Oxford University.
